More Information

In the field of performance clothing, 'layering' is the established principle; providing differing multi layered fabric build ups, isolating their properties, placing them where their properties matter most, and enhancing overall performance through combination. In our case, for deep uninterrupted sleep we seek to create a consistent microclimate around your body that reacts to the natural changes of seasonal (and nightly) temperature fluctuations along with core body temperature throughout the night; and helps you sweat less whether it be winter or summer.
With the RESTED Outlast® duvet we bring this theory into the realm of sleep - providing a technical duvet that is like no other and designed for those that require the highest degree of temperature control when it comes to their nighttime environment.
Starting with the outer finish - the equivalent of the 'base layer' that is closest to your skin. As the frontline, we optimise moisture control and provide a luxurious 'feel' with the truly silken finish of 100% Tencel (Lyocell) Botanical fibre. Woven in a breathable 200 Thread Count Sateen that is simply sublime to the touch. Scientifically proven to be 50% greater than cotton at moisture absorption, this first layer keeps you luxuriated, dry and comfortable.
Next up is Outlast®. The incredible dynamic fabric that reacts to your individual temperature generation. Absorbing the heat generated by your body and moving it away from the surface. The heat is retained to a median temperature, and when it starts to fall is released again. The effect is one of 'smoothing' your temperature fluctuation, keeping you in the perfect temperature zone for better sleep - neither too hot nor too cold. Outlast® works to control your temperature before your body needs to introduce your natural mechanism for doing so - sweating.
In practice, the duvet feels cool to the touch upon first entry, and then comes up to the 'right' temperature as it absorbs your body heat. Maintaining it in this zone for the rest of the night. This conforms to the accepted understanding of the bodies natural process for falling asleep. We react as humans to colder temperatures being a signal for falling asleep; and once asleep we need to stay neither too hot nor too cold to stay asleep uninterrupted. As a 'phase change' material this is what Outlast® provides and this dynamic aspect is especially powerful for those couples that share a duvet but have different core temperatures and indeed different temperature requirements in the same bed.
Inside the duvet is a lightweight filling of 50% Lyocell and 50% Polyester Hollowfibre - this provides the baseline thermal performance and moisture absorption necessary for an 'all seasons' duvet, but importantly, it is this central section where we incorporate an 'open' ventilated system woven with 3D fabric to the sides - allowing air and moisture to travel both in and out of the core of the duvet.
To date, all Outlast® duvets have traditionally incorporated a single facing layer of this unique fabric. However, our analysis of duvet usage showed that we use both sides of our duvet more than you think! Whether your arms are out on top of your duvet, or you are wrapping some of the duvet round your legs or under your body, there was no reason not to incorporate Outlast®on both sides of the duvet.
From a practical perspective we found it unhelpful for customers to determine which way up to place their duvet, hence our dual sided Outlast® incorporation means however you use the duvet, you are covered..... Double the Outlast®, double the performance.
Not all Outlast®inclusions are born equal; it is a complex and technical fabric that is woven and loaded in many different forms. At RESTED we worked hard with the technical team at Outlast® to select a fabric incorporation that provides the highest level of performance (i.e PCM molecule loading), whilst also meeting our specifications for enhanced breathability, and 60 Degree washability. The result is a duvet that is as high in specification as current technology will allow, that is hypoallergenic and capable of regular washing. At every turn there have been choices to make that could have reduced specification and cost - but the Outlast® Rested duvet has been created without any such concessions; to meet our promised goal of delivering the highest quality and performance level achievable.

The all important question - how does it feel to sleep with?
The basic answer is that it noticeably keeps you feeling 'just right' in terms of temperature throughout the night. Reducing sweating and negating the need for summer and winter duvet selection. We love that it keeps us cool in summer, but also warm in winter without sweating. Yet in terms of physical feel this is a duvet unlike any other and is significantly different in feel to a traditional feather (or synthetic fill) duvet. The double incorporation of full Outlast coverage means that the duvet comprises a total of four fabric layers together with the filling. Combined with your own duvet cover, that totals seven individual layers. This layering delivers the adaptive year round thermoregulative performance we were looking for, without the need for corresponding high fill levels. As a product it is therefore noticeably flatter and mildly heavier than standard fill duvets where 'loft' is a necessary requirement for the trapping of air and corresponding increase in static insulative performance (i.e tog rating).

lyocell

Lyocell is a botanic fibre derived from tree pulp. We use it because it has 50% more moisture absorption than cotton. It is moisture and humidity that are the principle factors in temperature control, hence Lyocell takes moisture away from you keeping you both dry and cool. In its finest forms, Lyocell is produced with a truly silken feel. This is because under a microscope, Lyocell fibres are completely smooth, unlike Cotton. It has a luxurious, beautiful, smooth finish that is kind to your skin, and yet is also completely washable. Our unique 100% Lyocell Gold quilt covers are a true pleasure with advanced performance.

outlast temp regulating

Outlast is patented 'Certified Space Technology™'. It utilises encapsulated 'Thermolecules' to absorb your body heat, in what is a known as 'phase change material'. In doing so, it reduces your bodies natural response to heat - to sweat, and rather than wicking it away, it takes heat away from the skin surface to address sweating and therefore moisture build up before it occurs. Thereafter, the phase change thermolecues release the heat when your body temperature drops. The result is less sweating, less moisture, and a smoothed median night time temperature, that adapts to the individual underneath it. A true Sleep Engineering solution that we are delighted to present in our most premium quilts.

summer soft

Sleep Engineering doesn't have to be overly technical. When considering our quilt ranges, standard UK 'tog' measures are largely inappopriate as most of our quilts are temperature regulating and therefore can not be classified with 'tog'. Our quilts react to you and your body temperature. So we try and keep things simple. Summer soft means that the quilt is lightweight and suitable for those that sleep in consistent temperature environments year round (i.e you use the heating in the winter). Our 'winter warmth' ranges are heavier, warmer, and suitable for the coldest months, and anyone who would naturally say that they require a high level of warmth from their quilt. In practice, the choise is easy and self evident, particulary in person at the Rested Experience.
